“THE SHOWDOWN.” Action is the keynote of Paramount’s latest “Hopalong Cassidy” romance, “The Showdown,” which will be shown tonight at the Cosy •Theatre. William Boyd, who plays the part of the redoubtable “Hopalong,” proves himself a master portrayer of the silent man of the west who sees justice prevail. The story concerns the machinations of a band of crooked gamblers and horse thieves who come into a frontier community and attempt to run it until Cassidy catches up with them, and winds up with one of Hie most thrilling runaways and captures ever recorded. The cpst also includes Russell Hayden, Bifitt Wood, Morris Ankrum, lovely Jane Clayton and ‘‘The King’s Men,” cowboy singing aggregation of radio fame. Infant charm, hilarious comedy and romantic intrigue are combined in a most effective manner in Universal’s "Unexpected Father,” the associate feature. The infant charm is supplied by baby Sandy, who captured movie audiences in a big way when she appeared on the screen for the first time in ‘■East Side of Heaven.” The comedy comes largely from Mischa Auer. The romantic intrigue is provided by Dennis O’Keefe and Shirley Ross, with Donald Briggs always in the offing as the “other man.”
