MANAGES SHEEPFARM
DISTINCTION HELD BY WOMAN. LIFE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, October 25. To hold a diploma in sheep farming, won after a two years’ course at Massey College, and then to be manager of an 800-acre sheep farm, are two claims to distinction held by Miss Kathleen Scott, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Scott, Gimmerburn. Miss Scott, who is in her early twenties, is at present manager of a sheep farm three miles outside Palmerston. She is in sole charge, and there are no men on the place. Receiving her early education at Waitaki Girls’ High School, Miss Scott gained some experience in commercial work in Dunedin and in general farming on her father's farm and then went to Masse}’ College to take hetdiploma. Though there have been other female students to have gained the diploma in sheep farming, they took their course many years ago, and Miss Scott is practically the only girl in recent years to gain her diploma. She took the full course at Massey College, specialising on a stud sheep farm and taking complete wool classing instruction. While she has been assisting on sheep farms since completing her course, it was only two months ago that she took over the job of managing a farm. Since then she has had to take charge of lambing and supervise all the work on the run. Except for a woman companion she is alone in her work, but finds little trouble in managing the station. She enjoys her life to the full and thinks managing a sheep farm an enjoyable job for a girl and a useful one in these times of war.
