SOLWAY COLLEGE
ANNUAL BAZAAR. A SUCCESSFUL EFFORT. In spite of rain yesterday, the annual bazaar held at Solway College, Masterton, was attended by a large, numbei of parents, friends and Old Girls. Visitors assembled in the College Hall at 2.15 p.m., where a short preliminary concert was given by present girls. The Rev. D. McNeur then declared the bazaar open in a speech in which he paid tribute to the interest taken by the Old Girls in the welfare of the school. He also reminded the gathering that the proceeds of the bazaar would be given to the Mayor s Patriotic Fund. The stalls and those in charge of them were as follow: — Produce: Patricia Blamires, Merran McCulloch. Joan Thomas, Rose Allen, Jean McLeod. Sweets: Margaret St. George-Ryder, Evelyn Bodkin, Nancy Reid, Marian Knight. Christmas gifts: Frances Brown. Nola Dockery. Patricia Parsons. Needlework: Suzette Millar, Helen Storey, Joy O'Meara, Edna Manuel. Bran tub: Helen and Margaret Bibby. Naomi Harris, Isabel Baker. Soft Drinks: Fay Ward, Romola Thomson. Mary Caldwell. Fortune telling: Judy Agar, Mary Scott, Mescal Bradey. Cheerios: June Whillans, Gwenda Curie, Shirley Roberts. Candle blowing: Janet Wilks, Noeline Speedy. Flowers: Edna Cameron. Flora McDonald. Helen Ince. Jean Lawrence. Bag throwing: Doreen Thornley, Helen Douglas. Copper trail: Shirley McMaster, Barbara King. Nail driving: Anne Burkhart, Joan Couling. Hoop-la: Gay Nimmo, Margaret and Pauline Wilson, Jill Hyams. Button-holes: Joan Kingston, Leah Zucker. Marie Franklin. The colour scheme of the diningroom, the main decoration of which were Iceland poppies, provided a delightful atmosphere for the dainty afternoon tea which was served by the Masterton branch of the Old Girls’ Association.
The Prefects deserve special commendation for their successful effort, a result that is evident of good powers for organisation and really hard work. At the College tea in the evening the Principal proposed votes of thanks, which were, enthusiastically carried, to all who had worked so hard to maintain the high standard of this function, which is now a school tradition.
