SOUTHERN VOYAGES

BEAR OF OAKLAND AND NORTH STAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) ■WASHINGTON, October 24. The Bear of Oakland will sail from Panama on Tuesday for Little America, via Galapagos, Samoa, and New Zealand. A second supply ship, the North Star, will sail from the Pacific Coast in November to join the Bear of Oakland in Little America, pick up 33 men, and proceed to the “east base,” 600 miles south of Cape Horn, and pick up a further 26 men for return to America.

The Government is hopeful of establishing United States claims to a large segment of the continent by virtue of intense exploration. However, the expedition is being liquidated temporarily in view of the world crisis.
