CHURCHILL CHEERED

ON RETURN FROM SCOTLAND. AFTER INSPECTING DEFENCES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 24. Office workers arriving at King’s Cross Station today had a surprise when they saw the smiling and familiar figure of the Prime Minister, with his dome-crowded hat and cigar, step from a train from Scotland, where he had inspected the coastal defences. There were cheers and cries of “Good old Winnie” and “Good luck to you, Sir,’ as Mr. Churchill drove to No. 10 Downing Street. Among the places which Mr. Churchill visited was an aerodrome of the Coastal Command. He also watched manoeuvres by Polish troops. A Polish regimental band played, while Mr. Churchill and General Sikorski inspected the guard of honour. Polish forces have taken over a section of the Scottish coast under the coastal defence scheme.
