CHUNGKING BOMBING

UNITED STATES GUNBOAT DAMAGED STRUCK BY LARGE ROCK. CASUALTIES IN VICINITY OF EMBASSY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) CHUNGKING, October 25. The United States gunboat Tutuila was severely damaged when she was struck by a 400 pound rock which was dislodged during a Japanese raid. Shrapnel damaged the British steamers Wanliu and Wanhsien. Forty-two Japanese participated in the raid. The zone, off which the Tutuila was anchored, was designated as a safe area by the Japanese. There were 70 casualties in the vicinity of the United States Embassy, which was not damaged.
