Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway, attended by Captain Lord Dormer. A.D.C.. returned to Wellington ' by- air from Westport yesterday afternoon. The Hon. D. G. McMillan, Minister of Marine, returned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, returned to Wellington from Auckland today.

Messrs Symes. Hastings, and H. Holland, Wellington, booked intoday at the Hotel Midland. Masterton. The Hon. 'W. I.ee Martin. Minister of Agriculture, left Wellington last night on a visit to the South Auckland district.

Lord Gort, Inspector-General of Training, and Sir John Dill, Chief of the Imperial General Staff, have been appointed aides-de-camp general to the King, a British Official Wireless message states. The death has occurred of Mrs Mary Ann McDonald, Birch Road. Taihape. Mrs McDonald was. with her husband, among the oldest pioneers in the country surrounding Mangawcka. Mrs McDonald was born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland, in 1860.

Mr G. Wigham, who died at Waiwctu on October 18, aged 63, was one of the strongest chess players in Greater Wellington. He joined the Wellington Chess Club in 1923. He had previously held a high ranking in the chess circles of Birmingham. His successes in telegraphic matches against other centres helped to build the Wellington Club's fine record in these contests. He was formerly a member of the Hataitai Bowling Club.

The funeral of the late Mr S. 11. Stokes took place at the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon, following a service at Hyde's Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. D. McNeur. There was a large cortege and a number of beautiful wreaths were received including floral tributes from Masterton Masonic Lodge No. 19 and Wairarapa Royal Arch Chapter. At the graveside the service was conducted by the Rev. D. McNeur while the Masonic funeral service was carried out by Wor. Bro. B. Iveson W.M.. the prayers being said by Bro. E. G. Coddington (Chaplain). The pall bearers were Messrs 11. J. Jones. 11. A. R. Dunderdalc. L. J. Taylor, V. Burridge, J. Caln and C. Davey.
