SENTIMENT IN FRANCE
ANTI-BRITISH FEELING DISAPPEARS GERMANS BLAMED FOF FIRING AT DAKAR. LAVAL LOSING GROUND. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright i (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) BASLE, October 22. A well-known neutral politician, in an article in the “National Zeitung,” says anti-British feeling in France after the Oran naval action and the Dakar clash has disappeared and has been replaced by growing sympathy as Britain continues to resist the Axis. The French listen to the 8.8. C. regularly and do not understand why the Dakar garrison fired on free Frenchmen, including a grandson of Marshal Foch. They now believe the Germans gave the order and also that Axis planes bombed Gibraltar. Most Frenchmen are anxious for strict neutrality and accede to German wishes under protest. They believe England is not beaten and has big reserves, while the United States has not said the last word. This view is spreading despite M. Laval’s opposition.
