PEACE APPEAL TO BRITAIN MADE IN CIANO'S PAPER. BOGEY OF DOMINATION BY U.S.A. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 21. The Italian publicist, Signor Ansaldo, writing in Count Ciano’s paper, “Telegrafo,” betrayed Italian anxiety for peace by making a direct appeal io Britain to desert her allies and cease war mi the Axis. He supported his appeal not by threats that Britain would be annihilated, but by referring to fear of her domination by the United States. According to Signor Ansaldo, the United States is coming into the war in the spring to take control of Britain, which, he says, can avoid that domination only by making peace with the Axis. “It is curious that Signor Ansaldo should'be writing about the course the war will take next spring while the Italian Press is promising the Italian people that the war will be ended at Christmas, and that the Fascist Party has had to send out public speakers to explain Hitler’s war to the Italian people,” remarked a London commentator. “The only part of Signor Ansaldo’s article which is taken seriously in London is that part making it clear how urgently Italy desires to terminate the conflict.”
