The death occurred at New Plymouth last, week of Mr Kay Mason, only son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Mason, and formerly of Gladstone, at the age of 19 years.

The Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington last night for Christchurch. He expects to return to Wellington early next week.

Mr. A. G. Henderson and Mr. G. G. Shirtcliffe were re-elected to the Pension Fund Trust Board by yesterday’s session of the Anglican Diocesan Synod.

Mr. Eric Riddiford, Orongorongo, and Mr, W. F. Hogg, Wellington, were yesterday reappointed by the Wellington Diocesan Synod to the position of trustee members of the Samuel Marsden Collegiate School Trust Board. The degree of doctor of laws was conferred on Mr Oswald Chettle Mazengarb, Wellington, for a thesis on the law of negligence and contributory negligence at a special meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand yesterday in Wellington. At the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last night, Mr T. Jordan, Mayer of Masterton, and president of the New Zealand Municipal Association, was appointed delegate to the annual conference to be held in the Dominion from March 3 to March 6, 1941.

Mr, C. M. A. Kebbell, Pohangina, was yesterday appointed lay secretary of the Anglican Synod of the Wellington Diocese, at present in session. He takes the place of the Rev. M. Cromp-ton-Smith, assistant curate of Khandallah, who vacated the position upon being ordained. Mr P. L. Brady, Wellington, a well - known retired business man. has been appointed honorary organiser and secretary of the Wellington metropolitan section of the Dominion-wide campaign by the provincial patriotic councils to raise £1,000.000. Mr. J. Ward, late Government audit inspector, has been appointed honorary treasurer.

Mr A. C. Kitto, who has been president of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association for 16 years, declined to accept nomination for the office at the annual meeting of the centre and, on his motion, Mr J. W. Heenan was elected to the position. The meeting decided to nominate Mr. Kitto as president and life member of the N.Z.A.A.A.

A well-known Napier citizen, Mr. Henry George Exeter, has died after a long illness. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs T. J. Exeter and was born in Napier 63 years ago. He was a foundation member of the Napier branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and a member for 45 years, during which he held many positions. Mr Exeter was the first fire brigadesman to receive a long-service medal in Hawke's Bay.

Mi- R. C. Addison, Chief Attorney for the Bank of New South Wales ir. New Zealand, is in receipt of advice that the Hon. Colin Archibald Sinclair. M.L.A., at present Minister for Lands in New South Wales, has been appointed a Director of the Bank in succession to Sir Kelso King, who has resigned from the board. Mr Sinclair, who is a well known grazier (Waterloo Station, Glen Innes. New South Wales), is also a director of Union Trustee Co. of Australia, Ltd.

In the absence of the Bishop of Wellington. the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, who has been convalescing from an operation, the Vicar-General, the Ven. Archdeacon W. Bullock, presided at the opening of the Wellington Diocesan Synod yesterday. “Our Bishop has had a trying and unfortunate year from the point of view of health.” he said. “When we last met, he was in Great Britain on a trip for the establishment of his health. He arrived back in December of last year, and soon got into his full stride in the work of the diocese, but he was not well, and in July of this year, it was discovered that he must have a further operation. “I am glad to say he is making a satisfactory recovery and will be in harness again from November 1.”
