A very creditable performance had to be put up by Swordstick before he won the Teschemaker Handicap at Washdyke. He was ridden off the mark, kept busy by handicap, and finally had to fight off strong challenges from Wardress and Passaform. When racing to the front in the Taiko Handicap at Washdyke, Leighnor bore in and had to be straightened up. There is no doubt about his brilliance, and he should improve with experience. To be Given a Spell. Entail suffered a slight breakdown during the running of the Flying Handicap at Washdyke, and this accounted for his poor display. He is to be given a month’s spell and an effort will then be made to train him again in view of the West Coast holiday circuit. Duvach in Good Form. At Trentham yesterday Duvach was with difficulty restrained to keep with Rich Blood over four in 50. Duvach is a fine mover, and is in good form. He will have 71b. allowance tomorrow. Siglow Goes Well. The first to work at Trentham yesterday was Siglow, who could not be timed on account of the mist, but he did his work well and was running on strongly at the end; in fact, his light boy had some difficulty in pulling him up. Siglow is fancied for the October Handicap. RACING FIXTURES Oct. 24, 26, 28 —Wellington. Oct. 26 —Poverty Bay Oct. 26, 28 —Gore. Oct. 28 —Waikato. Oct. 28—Poverty Bay. Clifford Colours Will be Missing. For the first time for many years the Clifford colours will not be seen out at Trentham, but the Chokebore stable will be represented on the second and third days by Pleading ■ j and Bird of Prey, belonging to Mr G. |R. Macdonald. The former has been s rather disappointing to date, but there is no doubt about his sprinting ability, and he indicated his present form by a smart sprint over four furlongs yesterday. Bird of Prey is a half-sister I by Solicitor-General to Shikari and 1 has shown marked promise on the tracks. > Will Not be on Hand. Though King’s Toast and Density , figure as acceptors at Trentham on Thursday, they will not be on hand. King’s Toast was booked to go north on Monday night with Royal Chief and Iceland Spar, but his owner de- ' cided to cancel his engagements and to keep him for the New Zealand Cup meeting. Density will be sent up today and will race on the second day ' only. This will be her only race be- : fore the Stewards’ Handicap. Gentil- ! ity, by Paladin from Hauteur, will accompany Density and will race on Saturday only. Riders for Trentham.
