WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT OPAKI. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The October meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of the president, Mrs Beetham. who presided. The meeting opened with the singing of the ode and the recitation of the aspiration and the prayer for peace. Miss lorns was appointed voting delegate and Mrs Beetham reporting delegate in connection with the meeting of the Wairarapa Federation to be held at Carterton on October 25. In the monthly competitions, Miss lorns was successful in the needlework section, and in the flower competition Mrs Rayner and Mrs Malmo were the winners. Mrs Beetham gave an interesting demonstration on the making of loose covers for chairs, for which Mrs Wingate expressed the thanks of members. The November meeting will be held at the home of Mrs Wingate when the competitions will be: sewing, garment for infant; flowers, a case of blooms. The roll call for November will be “Where I should like to live outside New Zealand.” The hostesses Mrs Jaine and Mrs Marchbank served afternoon tea after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
