BAPTIST CHURCH
CONFERENCE AT DUNEDIN. MINISTERIAL STIPENDS. The conference of the Baptist Union and Missionary Society was continued on Saturday, opening with an intercessory service for world peace, conducted by Rev E. T. Jones, of Morrinsville. At the business session, three main topics engaged the attention of the delegates. Concerning the necessity for an increase in ministerial stipends a committee was set up to bring down a report to the Assembly on this matter. The committee was authorised to ■investigate the possibility of devising methods whereby the change of pastorates might be better facilitated. It was also decided that a definite form be adopted regarding the induction of ministers. It was considered that such a form should be adopted by all the churches for the sake of enhancing the dignity of the occasion. A Literary and Publicity committee was also appointed to deal with the matter of providing denominational literature of a kind suitable for Baptist congregations. It was stated that this committee would also be invaluable in youth work and in the spreading of denominational beliefs. In the evening a musical festival was held by the united Dunedin Baptist choirs assisted by local artists in the Hanover Street Baptist Church. On Sunday visiting ministers preached in the local churches. The main service was the Bible Class rally held in the afternoon when the speaker was the Rev. B. G. Carlisle.
