OBITUARY
MR STEPHEN HENRY' STOKES. The death occurred yesterday of Mr Stephen Henry Stokes, of Pownall Street, Masterton. The late Mr Stokes, who was born at Staffordshire, England. 80 years ago, came to New Zealand when he was 13 years old. He resided at Springfield and Ashburton for some years, following the occupation of a farmer and coming to the Wairarapa, he settled in Masterton about 30 years ago. For a period he was engaged in the carpentering trade and later conducted a store in Pownall Street. Mr Stokes was a member of Masterton Masonic Lodge No. 19. of which he was tyler for a number of years and of the Royal Arch Chapter. His wife predeceased him ten years ago and ho is survived by one daughter. Mrs Bitmead, of Oxford, Canterbury, and one sister, Mrs Chaplin, Christchurch. The funeral will take place tomorrow. leaving the Chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service, following a service at 2.30 p.m.. for the Masterton Cemetery. Members of the Masonic Lodge are requested to attend the funeral.
