SALVATION ARMY

DEMONSTRATION BY YOUNG PEOPLE. LAST EVENING'S PROGRAMME. There was a record attendance at the Masterton Salvation Army Hall last night when a young peoples’ demonstration was presented to an appreciative audience. The standard of entertainment was high and the demonstration was considered the best >for many years. Major Armstrong (Wellington) presided and the meeting was opened with prayer led by Major Hildreth. ’ x The programme was varied and interesting, commencing with an introductory recitation by Nancy Clark, followed by a company song entitled “Soldiers of the King.” Well received items were “The Little Lord Jesus” (action song); “A Dirty Face” (recitation by Ken Mahaffie); harmonica selection (boys of Whatman Home); “The Lord Stood in His Garden” (tableau); and a vocal quintette by the girls of Whatman Home. A pianoforte duet was given by Ken and Maurice Mahaffie, followed by a sketch “The New Wireless.” A dialogue by the children of the primary department, and a cornet solo “The Stranger of Galileo" were much appreciated. An excellent display of gymnastics was given by the boys of Whatman Home. The remainder of the programme was a variety of tableuax, dialogues and verse speaking. Miss B. Fairbrother was the accompaniste. On Sunday special services were also largely attended, Major Armstrong presiding. Items were given by the children and their singing, under the conductorship of Mr S. Mason (Young People's Sergeant Major) was of a high order. BAND AND SONGSTER BRIGADE. VISITING MASTERTON NEXT WEEKEND. The Napier Salvation Army Band and the Songster Brigade, two of the Army's leading combinations will pay a visit to Masterton next weekend.
