MASTERTON WEST. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton West School committee the chairman, Mr E. R. Rogers, presided. There were also present Messrs F. Shearer, Graham, Batty, Tooby, Baird. Haybittie, Campbell and the headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell. An apology for absence was received from Mr R. G. Gilbert. A discussion took place on the type of heating to be used in the new school, following consideration of a report on the system used in the new Hutt School. A system outlined by Mr Tobby was recommended for further consideration. The visiting committee reported that everything had been found in order. The teachers were satisfied and under the unsettled conditions were carrying on well. Mr Haybittie, the committee’s delegate on the Dental Clinic committee submitted a report on the outcome of the recent meeting and asked for the co-operation of the school committee in any measure he might bring forward. Mr Haybittie was assured of the full support of the committee and for his future guidance a unanimous expression of opinion that the school committee was in favour of clinics being attached to the main schools was made. Members commented favourably on the. fact that the foundations for the new school had been laid. 1 A vote of thanks was passed to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency and Mr E. R. Rogers for supplies in connection with the growing of mangolds. Mr Farrell suggested erecting direction board at points leading to West School as he considered that newcomers to the town were not aware that a school existed in the locality. It was decided to erect, subject to the Borough Council's permission, two suitable signs and to approach the Automobile Association in the matter. The matter of the reciting of the Lord’s Prayer in the school was discussed. but was held over.
