REMARKABLE EXPANSION. MINISTER GIVES DETAILS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) OTTAWA, October 18. The Minister for the Navy, Mr MacI Donald, stated that the German ship Weser had been renamed Vancouver Island and turned over to the merchant ) marine. II He added that the Canadian Navy ) now had 1,577 officers and 11,069 ratings - on active service. The average week- - ly increase in the numbers of men on i active service during the last three months had been 350. Within eighteen months, lhe Navy had increased its personnel by 10,000.
