AND RECORD ATTENDANCE FINAL DAY AT OPAKI. Bright sunshine favours the concluding day of the Masterton Racing Club’s Spring meeting, which is being held at the Opaki racecourse today. There is a record attendance and indications point to the meeting being the most successful held for many years. The track is in tip top order, al- ’ though the going is rather soft as the result of yesterday’s rain. The fields are again large and the class of horse engaged is excellent. Followers of the sport are well satisfied with the course appointments. Results of today’s racing, up to the time the “Times-Age” went to press, are as follow: — REPLACE TRIAL STAKES IN Ist — 3/1 Mr J. A. Betts’s Defy, 8.5 (G. R. Tattersail) 1 2/3 Messrs F. H. Barrell and T. J. Evans’s Lady Montava, 8.5 (P. Burgess). 2 1/2 Mr J. Jameson’s Blue Border, (A. Midwood) 3 Also started: 8/11 Magic Night; 5/5 Glen Donal; 9/10 First Role; 10/9 Royal Vision; 7/7, Hamish; 4/4, Beau Ciel; 6/6, Ramillies; 11/8, Betonymy. Won by half a head; three lengths. Royal Vision was fourth. Time, 1.19 1-5. Hamish. Beau Ciel and Blue Border were early leaders from the barrier, Lady Motava getting the worst of the start. Defy and Royal Vision were close up. At the turn Hamish, Beau Ciel, Lady Motava and Defy were abreast, Royal vision heading the next bunch. Down the straight Lady Motava led from Defy. Blue Border and Beau Ciel, but Defy came through fast to beat Lady Motava. by a head. SECOND HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP. of £100; winner to receive £75, second horse £l5, third horse £lO. From the start Shu, Locrian, Esperance Bay and Namesake headed the field. When the field settled down Esperance Bay and Locrian were in the lead. At the half mile Namesake was out in front from Solaria with Esperance Bay and Locrian close up. Down the straight Shu and Raeburn came through and a good fight saw the for- . mer prevail by a neck. Won by 1J lengths; neck between second and third. Grand Chase was fourth. Time, 1.4 2-5. A surprise win occurred when Wakarara, after hanging behind for most of the race, jumped out nearing the finish to lead the field past the post. Pas de Cheval was always handy to fill second place. Absolve, which hit the pace, fell back in the later stages. Grand Chase in fourth position, headed the remainder of the field which was bunched. C. F.
