HOME GUARD

MASTERTON ARFA COMMANDER APPOINTED. Additional appointments of area commanders for the Home Guard were announced last evening by the Minister of National Service, Mr Semple. They included one for Area 78. Headquarters, Masterton: Captain William Reginald Birch, M.C.. farmer, Hapua, Masterton. He served during the last war from 1914 to 1918 with the Ist Royal Dragoons, retiring in 1919 with the rank of captain. He is a past presh dent of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association.
