SEPARATE AIR FORCE
IN SUPPORT OF ARMY. NOT FAVOURED BY BRITISH GOVERNMENT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 16. Answering a question raised by Lord Trenchard in the House of Lords, Lord Snell, speaking for the Government, said that though air support for the modern army was vital and the opinion had been expressed in certain quarters that this need could best be met by the creation of a separate air force at the exclusive disposal of the army, this was not the considered view either' of the Air Staff or of the General Staff. The need for ensuring full scale ah - support for the army was fully appreciated by the Air Ministry and the War Office, and was engaging their continual attention, Lord Snell said.
The experience of the last five months gave good grounds for claiming that the proved aptitude for war at sea of the British people was having effect. They could look forward confidently to developments which would come in future months and in these developments the strengthening in the air, as in every way, of the army offensive would receive a full share of Government attention.
