AID FOR BRITAIN
MR WILLKIE ADVOCATES PROMPT ACTION NEW DEALERS ACCUSED OF PLAYING POLITICS. TALK OF REPREHENSIBLE DELAYS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 17. The Republican candidate for the Presidency (Mr Wendell Willkie), in a campaign speech urging further immediate aid to Britain, said: “I hope the New Dealers will forget that they are candidates for a third term and will act promptly and effectively. They conceivably may wish to delay aid in order to make a good impression for domestic political purposes, which would be reprehensible trifling with Britain’s safety for the sake of an unworthy political trick. “If it is desirable to send further aid, it should be sent immediately, within the limit of the laws. With Britain and democracy imperilled, this is no time to play politics with deliveries of equipment which strengthen Britain and raise the hopes of democracy in the whole world.”
