GALLOPS AT CAULFIELD GLADYNEV IMPRESSIVE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 17. Conditions were favourable for galloping on the course proper at Caulfield. where Gladynev worked impressively. He and Tidal Wave finished together in covering a mile in 1.41.1, the first four furlongs occupying 50, and six 1.153. Gladynev, on the outside, appeared to be going a shade better than his companion. He has improved this, week. Wilson was going better than John Dory at the end of seven furlongs in 1.29. Rexfelt was not extended to run seven in 1.30. Historian, going easily, took 1.45 for a mile, the first six in 1.18.!. Apostrophe moved freely in running nine furlongs in 2.3. Brazen King arrived from Adelaide. He looked well, and went nine in 2.5 i. , Hathersage worked freely over ten furlongs in 2.151. High Caste, looking fit, did striding work. At Flemington, on the course proper, Beaulivre, on the outside of Reading, finished with his companion after nine furlongs in 1.54 L the first six in 1.15 J. Both horses went extra well. Freckles took 1.163 for six. _ Auric’s Star used the fast inside grass to run five furlongs in 1.31. Waxwings went a mile on the same track in 1.431, the first six in 1.17 J. At Mentone, True Flight strode over a mile and than ran a mile in 1.52.! without being extended. He went well over the last three in 39, and is very fit. Lucrative finished a workout with three furlongs in 41. Lord Windburra did the best five furlongs, taking 1.43. Velocity and Warbird were together at the end of a mile in 1.50 t. At Epsom,, with the flags twenty feet out, Macrob. going well, ran a mile in 1.46,3. Pure Gold ran six in 1.18.!. Industry did the best half-mile in 50. Session ran six in 1.19. High Caste has had no recurrence of the trouble with a foreheel which interfered with his Epsom preparation. The heel bled yesterday, but it was treated with peroxide and later iodine. The horse suffered no ill effects and is very fit. The chief barrier positions in the Caulfield Cup are: Beaulivre 1. High Caste 6. Reading 8, Gladynev 14. True Flight 16, Historian 17, Maikai 20. Wilson 22. , Phoincs ricked himself in yesterdays Moonga Handicap and will not race for some time.
Nightbeam and Dashing Cavalier arrived at Flemington yesterday.
