CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE

First Day at Masterton SOME EXCELLENT FORM SHOWN (BY “THE GRAFTER”) The 'Masterton Club’s spring meeting yesterday produced some excellent racing, the public for the most part being not far wrong in their choice in each race. The form displayed by the majority of the horses would suggest that probable Trentham and Riccarton winners are amongst them. Lambourn was worthy of the confidence placed in him and ran a good race in the Masterton Handicap. The form displayed will merit close attention being given to the Bulandshar colt in the near future. The track was in excellent order and no doubt suited him. Form suggests that some of the horses which were not numbered among the winners yesterday will be more successful tomorrow. Lindrum will doubtless have been improved by his race in the principal event, and may be Rooked to run further up tomorrow. Duncannon should do better at the bigger meetings of the near future. The Ring, after her two races at the recent Hawke’s Bay meeting, where she ran second to Nigger Boy in the Final Handicap, should be about ready to win’ and should keep the field busy in the Vallance Memorial Handicap. The Siegfried mare won three races last season, besides filling places on numerous occasions, her most impressive effort, perhaps, being her win in the Hawke’s Bay Cup, 1J miles, in which Lindrum ran second. She won the Kelburn Handicap at the Wellington meeting last season, Pearl of Asia being second to her with Trench Law third. Pearl of Asia is also in good'form at the moment, and judging by the manner in which she ran in the Carnarvon Handicap at Foxton last month, coming from the rear to win comfortably from Little Robin, she should be a serious proposition in the Vallance Memorial Handicap. Lindrum’s effort in the Masterton Handicap yesterday should improve the Siegfried gelding and 'he may be expected to run better in the Vallance Memorial Handicap tomorrow. He showed fair form at Opaki yesterday as he did in his two starts at Hastings early this month. Master Cyklon may be capable tomorrow of repeating his Hastings Spring Handicap success when he headed Aurora’s Star past the post in a field of four. Native Song defeated him on the second day at 4 Hastings though he finished strongly to beat Aurora’s Star again.
