BOARD MEETING TOMORROW REPORTS FOR PAST MONTH. INCREASE IN REVENUE. (“Times-Age” Special.) "The net- revenue for September shows a satisfactory increase compared with September, 1939 and exceeded the estimate by £48,” states the SecretaryManager of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, Mr Geo. Brown, in his report to be presented at the meeting of the Board tomorrow. For the period April-September, the first six months of the board's financial year, the revenue showed an increase of £350 on the estimates. Mr Brown stated that he attributed the present satisfactory position to the mild winter experienced causing few peaks. A steady rise in costs, all-round, was indicated by Mr Brown. The estimated profit for the year was £2838. With the exclusion of trading and taking into consideration the actual figures for the half-year the profit for the first six months of the year was approximately £7OO. During the month 7 new consumers were connected to the system, making the total number to date 6142. “At the present stage I consider that the profit for the year should not be less than £4,000,” observed Mr Brown in commenting on the prospects for the remainder of the year. He pointed out that the trend of increasing costs would make itself felt in the future. All materials used for maintenance or transport were having to be replaced at greatly increased costs. There was also a definite slackening off in the amount of installation work offering in the district. With the heavier calls for taxation, the increase in the cost of living and the increased cost of the work itself it was to be expected that the slackening off would continue. The chief engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan, reports that in the northern area 7 services had been erected. A start had been made with the detailed survey of the Kopuaranga district. Plans would be submitted to the Public Works Department, P. and T. Department, N.Z. Railways and the County Council. When they were approved Mr Keenan estimated that a start could be made with the erection work in about 28 days. Once the erection was started it would take approximately 11 weeks to complete the line. In the central area seven service connections were erected. The maintenance programme in the district was well forward. In the southern area 7 connections were also erected. All lines had been patrolled and were in a satisfactory condition. At the Kourarau head works both plants had been operating parallel with the Government .supply. The inspection department had carried out a total of 320 inspections.
