MAGISTRATE’S COURT

BUSINESS AT MASTERTON SITTING. WANDERING STOCK A MENACE ON HIGHWAYS. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court was held in the Courthouse this morning. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided. On charges of permitting stock to wander on highways Percy A. Bellis, Jack Innes, and Ray Smith were each fined £1 and 12s. costs; Lawrence Carrell, 10s. and 12s. costs; Edward Collerton. £1 10s. and 12s. costs and Tahu Pura. £2 and 12s. costs. "I would point out that wandering stock is a menace on the main highways," stated Inspector W. G. Milne in outlining the eases. He pointed out that numerous complaints had been received. The Borough Poundkeeper proceeded against T. P. O'Neil and N. D. Rutherford on charges of permitting stock to wander. The defendants were fined 10s. and 10s. costs and ss. and 12s. costs respectively. David Selwyn Marsden and Harry Robert Robinson were each fined 10s. and 10s. costs on charges of failing to carry a warrant of fitness for their motor vehicles. Marsden was also fined 10s. and 10s. costs on a charge of having failed to have a driver’s licence. Ivy Maud Graham was fined 10s. and 10s. costs on a charge of riding a cycle at night without a light. On a charge of failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right Angus Scott was fined £1 and 10s. costs.
