PATRIOTIC APPEAL

SECTION TO BE RAFFLED AGAIN. SECOND AND THIRD PRIZES DONATED. A meeting of the Masterton district Patriotic Committee was held in the Council chambers yesterday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presided. There were also present Messrs J. C. D. Mackley, E. M. Hodder, J. T. Jameson, H. H. Mawley, H. J. Brass, H. M. Boddington. Groves, E. W. Cheetham and G. T. O’Hara Smith. Mr Jordan explained that the reason for the meeting was to consider launching a local campaign in connection with the Dominion-wide Provincial fund appeal for £1,000,000. It was decided to raffle the building section in College Street re-donated by Mr Jordan, and for second and third prize. Mr Jameson’s offer of a bicycle (either man’s or lady’s) and Mr Page’s offer of a motor car were accepted with thanks. The tickets would be sold at 6d. each. Messrs Jameson, Mackley and O'Hara Smith were appointed a committee to complete the arrangements. It was decided to call a public meeting, to be held in the Social Hall, Municipal Buildings, at 7.30 o’clock on Thursday October 24, to discuss the launching of the local appeal for the Provincial Patriotic fund. Wednesday, November 20, was the date fixed for a visit to Masterton by the Wellington Harmonic Society, when a concert in aid of the Patriotic Fund would be held in the Opera House.
