INDOOR BASKETBALL

LOCAL COMPETITION. WON BY P. & T. DEPARTMENT. The P. and T. Department had a surprise victory over W.F.C.A. in the final of the local indoor basketball tournament. The game was a fast one but the W.F.C.A. did not play up to their usual standard. The win was a popular one. In the challenge matches Reliance defeated W.F.C.A. and Old Boys, State Kitchenette defeated P. and T. Department, and Graham’s defeated Vesta. The following are the results of the games:— P. and T. Department 34 (Thompson 12, Minifie 18. Woollett 2, McHattie 2) defeated W.F.C.A. 28 (Pullar 14, Wilson 6, McCormack 3, Doyle 4). Reliance Tyres 44 (Bodie 9, Reynolds 2, Riley 8, Rex Riley 8. Burns 17) defeated jDld Boys 27 (Dyer 16, Hamill 2. Roach *l. Hammond 8). Reliance Tyres 42 (Bodie 14. Riley 6. Rex Riley 6, Burns 2, Reynolds 14) defeated W.F.C.A. 17 (Pullar 2. McCormack 2. Cretney 1, Wilson 13). State Kitchenette 29 (Minifie 9. McHattie 8, Burns 12) lost to Old Boys 46 (Hamill 12. Dyer 12, Morton 2, Hammond 20). State Kitchenette 23 (Burns 15, Minifie 6, McHattie 2) defeated P. and T. Department 17 (Thompson 5, Reynolds 12). In announcing the closing of the season the Y.M.C.A. secretary congratulated the winners, and said that he hoped that next year it would be possible to conduct another competition in men’s indoor basketball.
