LATEST LIE

ALLEGED SUSPENSION OF CAIRO PAPER. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 15. According to reports from Egypt, regular readers of the "Al Misri” were surprised on opening their newspapers to see the headline “Al Misri suspended for 10 days.” Beneath appeared the following message broadcast by the Axis:— “Reports from the Egyptian frontier reveal that Egypt is surging with agitation owing to the prohibition by the British authorities of any criticism of their seizure of foodstuffs. 'AI Misri,’ the organ of the influential Wafd, has been suspended for 10 days for criticism of the authorities. The Wafd issued a warning that non-co-operation would be declared unless the decision is cancelled." The “Al Misri,” which, of course, has not been suspended, contents itself with a brief addition:.“This is the latest lie about Egypt by the Italian and German broadcasts. We publish it without comment." ' In fact, there has been no requisitioning of rationing whatever in Egypt. On the contrary, the country is experiencing a minor boom because of the British purchase of the entire cotton crop, valued at £30,000.000 and an expenditure of about £20.000.000 by the British fighting services in Egypt.
