NAW LEAGUE
ENTRY TO SCHOOLS GRANTED. WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD DECISION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. After further consideration of the representations of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association that Navy League speakers be allowed into the schools in its district for one half-hour a year, in school time, the Wellington Education Board at yesterday's meeting reversed its previous decision and, with out dissentient, agreed to the Navy League’ request. A proviso was added that there should be no canvassing for membership fees or subscriptions on school premises at any time. > A letter was read from the Wellington School Committees’ and Educational Federation stating that the federation was disturbed at the board’s attitude and asking for immediate reconsideration. The Carterton school committee wrote suggesting that the lectures be put on the air during the school radio sessions, and that all branches of the Army and Air Force be given similar consideration. Mr J. L. McDonald moved that the Education Department be asked to make the necessary arrangements for the broadcasts as suggested by the Carterton school committee, by people specially equipped to interpret the importance of current events and the contributions being made toward them by the various services of the defence forces or other national elements. This was carried. The board decided to thank the Carterton committee for its suggestion and to advise it that steps would be taken to put the proposal into effect.
