SWIMMING CLUB DEPUTATION WAIT ON COUNCIL. ("Times-Age” Special.) A deputation from the Swimming Club consisting of Messrs D. C. Pryor, S. Chapman and J. McTavish waited on the Borough Council to discuss matters in connection with the swimming baths. Mr McTavish acted as spokesman. Among the requests discussed were those of hours for the school children, special times for ladies, and the granting of Thursday evenings to the club exclusively for training purposes and club events. Mr McTavish stated that the club would accept no responsibility for accidents till a caretaker had been appointed. The deputation also asked that the council draw up regulations for the general control of the baths. After hearing the deputation, the various requests were considered, and the Mayor, Councillors Holmes, Hamilton, and Hardie were appointed a Baths Committee with power to act. It was decided that the official opening of the baths be held on November 25 at 2 p.m. The baths are to be closed till a caretaker is appointed. Rose and Sweet Pea Show. A meeting of the Girl Guide and Boy Scout Committees was held yesterday afternoon, when it was decided to hold the annual sweet pea and rose show on November 14. The schedule was revised, and arrangements made for carrying out the exhibition. Camping Ground. Good progress is being made with the camping ground on Considine Park. The reading has been formed, and the camping sites laid out- Metalling will be done during the week, and the mole draining of the recreation area carried out. At the Borough Council meeting the Mayor reported that arrangements had been made for the necessary buildings and fittings. Councillors unanimously approved of the Mayor’s action in pushing ahead with the work, and permission was given to proceed at once with the erection of the buildings. The camping ground will be ready in about a week, and is to be formally opened on November 25. The Mayor has presented a concrete fireplace and copper, and Councillor W. H. Corfield asked the council’s acceptance of an electric stove for the use l of campers. Other gifts have also come to hand. Personal. Mr Blathway. of Gisborne, has accepted a position with the legal firm of Messrs Gawith and Biss, filling the va-. cancy caused by the death of Mr H. L. Griffiths.
