SOVIET ATTITUDE IN BALKANS
Professed Acceptance of Nazi Explanations BUT MANY REPORTS OF NAVAL AND MILITARY ACTIVITY GERMAN PREPARATIONS IN RUMANIA (By Telegraph—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) LONDON, October 15. While Soviet circles in Bucharest professedly accept the German explanation of the Reichwehr’s activities there are many reports of increased Russian naval and military activity. Zone authorities in Bessarabia, it is reported, admit that at present twenty Russian divisions are beyond the Rumanian border, “for manoeuvres.” Other Red units have, it is supposed, crossed the most northerly arm of the Danube delta, reached Sulina and reinforced the river fleet with four monitors, following upon alleged incidents between Russian and German troops near Galati and installed heavy artillery at Reni. Meanwhile the German “training” of the Rumanian army has begun with elaborate anti-aircraft precautions around Rumania’s chief railway junction outside Bucharest in addition to those on the oil-fields.
