HOSPITAL BOARD
MEETING IN MASTERTON SWIMMING BATHS FOR NURSES. A TENDER ACCEPTED. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was held in Masterton today. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley presided. There were also present Mesdames S. Fletcher, J. Robertson; Misses C. McKenny, H. Card; Messrs. W. I. Armstrong, Trevor Beetham. F. S. H. Bolton, W. Britland, A. Clark, F. Court, A. Forsberg, C. T. Richardson, J. F. Thompson, P. R. Welch, Duncan McGregor and H. Thomas. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. A. McLeod and W. B. Martin. The Department of Health wrote forwarding Ministerial approval for spending £450, the cost of laying tennis courts for the use of nurses at the Masterton Hospital. The Department also advised that in cases where mothers accompanied infants to the hospital, the Social Security benefits would be payable in respect of both infant and mother at the prescribed rate of 6s. per The Masterton County Council wrote stating that the estimated cost of completing the roadway at the Masterton Hospital would be £6OO. Mr Norman Lee, managing-secretary reported that £157 had already been expended on the work. It was decided that application be made for the Department of Health’s approval for the work, at an estimated cost of £757, and that when approval was received steps be taken to put the work in hand. The tender of Messrs W. Rigg, Ltd.. Masterton, for the building of the swimming baths at the Masterton Nurses’ Home, was accepted, subject to adjustment for supplying water from the garden well instead of connecting with the Borough supply. It was decided that the Moses Smith bequest of £522 12s be utilised towards the cost of the baths, and the balance paid from the capital funds.
