TRAPPED IN ROOM
FIRL FATALLY BURNED. TRAGEDY AT BIRKENHEAD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 14. Trapped by a jammed door in a burning room at her home in Birkenhead yesterday afternoon, a five-year-old girl suffered extensive burns to her head, body and limbs and died in the Auckland Hospital a few hours later. She was Margaret Josephine Brljevich, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ante Brljevich. While her parents were in the garden the girl was playing in the bedroom. She ran out crying that the bedding was on fire. Before her father could reach the house, however, she had run into the room again slamming the door behind her. It jammed and could not be opened. By this time the room was blazing fiercely and the house was filled with smoke. Mr Brljevich finally managed to force the door open and, suffering slight burns himself, carried his daughter out.
