LOCAL GOVERNMENT
SUPPRESSED IN FRANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. October 13. The latest act of the Vichy Government is to supiess local governing bodies in the French departments, the reason given being that these bodies may be used for political purposes. French departments will, in future, be controlled by prefects assisted by an administrative commission whose functions will be purely consultative. The Minister of Justice, M. Albert, said today that there would be no racial laws directed against Jews, but Jews would be excluded from holding high offices in politics, newspapers, or business.
