BOXING
WIN FOR HUTCHINSON. RAYNER KNOCKED OUT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ October 12. Despite a plucky endeavour to stand up to a terrific thrashing from Johnny Hutchinson, Clarrie Rayner, former New Zealand professional lightweight boxing champion, was knocked out by the American negro tonight in the third round of a scheduled 12-round bout. It was the second occasion on which the contestants had met, the first being the Blenheim bout, in which Hutchinson was disqualified for fouling in the second round. In tonight'r bout, consequently, Hutchinson bore no kindly feeling for Rayner, and he lost no time in unleashing his battery of heavyweight punches and had Rayner down on several occasions before the New Zealander was counted out while making an effort to come back for more in the third round.
