HEAVY LOSSES
SUFFERED BY ITALIANS. IN WESTERN DESERT SORTIE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 11. It is announced in- Cairo that considerable losses were suffered last Tuesday by the Italian motorised column which made a sortie in the western desert. Ten vehicles were destroyed and the enemy suffered many casualties and was compelled to return to his original position. NEW BRITISH GUN. .USED WITH DEVASTATING EFFECT. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) CAIRO, October 11. The Italians paid dearly for a foray by motorised units in the desert no-man’s-land. They retired after losing 10 vehicles. The British used an antitank gun firing a two-pound bullet, which carries a large patch of armour inside the vehicle. Both bullet and patch then whirl around the interior of the vehicle, with devastating effect.
