MAYOR OF SHANGHAI
« MURDERED WHILE ASLEEP JAPANESE SOLDIER SHOT. MANY PARTIES SEARCHING FOR ASSASSINS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) SHANGHAI, October 11. The Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Fusaioen, who was appointed by the Japanese, has been assassinated. The Japanese’ Embassy said that the assassin used a Chinese hatchet. Mr Fusaioen was killed while sleeping in Hongkew, the Japanese-con-trolled section of the International Settlement. The assassin, who escaped, was a servant. It is also reported that a member of the Japanese army was shot at Hongkew at approximately the same time, making the fourth Japanese military assassination in a fortnight. Many parties are searching for the assassins.
