The Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Fusaioen, who was appointed by the Japanese, has been assassinated. The Japanese’ Embassy said that the assassin used a Chinese hatchet. Mr Fusaioen was killed while sleeping in Hongkew, the Japanese-con-trolled section of the International Settlement. The assassin, who escaped, was a servant. It is also reported that a member of the Japanese army was shot at Hongkew at approximately the same time, making the fourth Japanese military assassination in a fortnight. Many parties are searching for the assassins.
