COSY THEATRE

“SANTA FE MARSHAL.” The burning of an “office” building in Brush Canyon for the new “Hopalong Cassidy” action film, “Santa Fe Marshal,” which will be shown tonight at the Cosy Theatre, brought about an unnecessary run on the part of the Hollywood fire department, all because someone forgot to warn them. Dwellers in the hills saw the flames and telephoned fire headquarters, and it wasn’t long before the equipment roared into the Canyon. The firemen weren’t at all excited about the false alarm —they arrived just in time to snatch a bite of free lunch before returning to the department. Starred in “Santa Fe Marshal” is William Boyd, as Hopalong Cassidy, while Russel Hayden is seen as “Lucky.” The featured cast includes Marjorie Rambeau, Bernadene Hayes, Earl Hodgins and Britt Wood. Lesley Selander directed. The law puts the public enemies behind bars, but racketeers of law release them to prey on society again! That’s the point made by the Paramount drama, “Parole Fixer,” based on the J. Edgar Hoover book “Persons in Hiding,” which is the associate feature. The story stems from the revelation by the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation that over one-quarter of the nation’s criminals are men who have been favoured by parole on other forms of clemency. The workings of an actual parole ring are revealed in “Parole Fixer.” The plot of the show deals with a kidnapping committed by two criminals on parole. “Parole Fixer” features William Henry, Anthony Quinn, Virginia Dale, Robert Paige, Richard Denning and Lyle Talbot. Also screening is the first chapter of the great new serial “The Phantom Creeps.”
