The King has accepted the resignation of Sir Charles Bonham Carter. Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Malta, a British Official Wireless message states. Sir Charles, who was appointed in 1936, returned home in May after a serious illness, which was considered too recent for him to undertake active command without risk, though he was passed fit for general service.
The Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, will conduct confirmation services in the Wellington Diocese, commencing next week. The Rev. G. Jackson, Auckland, chairman of the New Zealand Congregational Church Union, has left for a three weeks' tour of the 40 Congregational Churches in New Zealand. Major R. F.H. P. Stuart-French. 11th Hussars, who has been Military Secretary to his Excellency the GovernorGeneral since March last, has relinquished the appointment owing to illhealth.
Two prominent Rugby footballers in the Hawke’s Bay province. Messrs Maurice Dyer and Doug. Dalton, have announced their retirement from the game. Dalton was an All Black forward of four seasons’ standing, and Dyer was Hawke's Bay’s best full-back for many years. The death has occurred in Wairoa of Mr John Dinnan, who was well known in the farming community through his associations with stock firms. Born in Epsom. Victoria, in 1866. he came to New Zealand 69 years ago. He had been employed by the Hawke’s Bay Farmers' Co-operative Association. Ltd., as storeman, and had lived a retired life for the past few years. He is survived by his wife and five sons. Messrs Norman Dinnan (Wairoa), Dennis Dinnan (Palmerston North). John Dinnan (Pakowhai), William Dinnan (Gisborne), and Bernard Dinnan (Eketahuna).
