PETROL RATIONING
QUESTION ONLY OF FINANCE MR C. EDMOND’S CONTENTION. REPLY TO MR MEACHEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Expressing the opinion that the question of the rationing of petrol in New Zealand was solely concerned with finance, Mr C. Edmond, president of the New Zealand Motor Trade Federation, issued a statement today replying to the contention made in the House of Representatives on Friday by Mr E. P. Meachen that rationing was necessitated through conditions arising from the war. Mr Edmond states that if Mr Meachen pursued the matter of petrol for the use for aeroplanes in New Zealand, he would find that it had no vital bearing on the rationing of petrol, and he adds that the Motor Trade Federation would be the last to suggest that any action should be taken that would in any way restrict the training of our Air Force.
