UNUSUAL EXPERIENCE
LONDONERS REFRESHED AND CHEERFUL (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, ‘October 7. London had its quietest night since the blitzkrieg began. The alert before dawn was like that of last evening, brief. Nothing was heard in the central districts and night transport services operated normally. Many people joked and wondered why there was silence. The shelters had their usual ‘occupants, who feared a night visitation. People went to work refreshed and cheerful, but there ..were fewer yarns in the buses. Brilliant sunshine followed a stormy night in the Straits of Dover. Mist veiled the French coast.
