LADIES’ HOCKEY

KIA TOA CUP. EXCELSIOR BEAT CARTERTON. The semi-final of the knock-out competition for the Kia Toa Cup was played at Lansdowne on Saturday between the Excelsior and Carterton senior ladies’ team. The game provided a very good exhibition of hockey, being played at a fast pace throughout. The defence of both teams was very good, but the combination shown by the Excelsior forwards proved the deciding factor and the local team ran out winners by 4 goals to 1. The final will be played at Lansdowne next Saturday between Excelsior and Te Ore Ore, when another good game should result. JUNIOR GAME. The Excelsior junior ladies’ team played Martinborough at Martinborcugh on Saturday, winning a keenly contested game by 2 goals to nil.
