WEEKEND PLAY MAHUNGA CLUB RESULTS. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY F. TRAYNOR. The best net medal round scores returned on Saturday were: —C. A. Carrig, 66; G. D. Caldwell, 69; J. C. Corbishley, 69; C. Sutherland. 69; W. W. Hendrv, 70; D. A. Hunn, 70; J. Norrie, 71. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The final of the junior championship was played over the weekend between F. Traynor and W. Taylor, the former willing by 4 up and 2. to play. LADIES’ TROPHY. In the final for the ladies' trophy, I, McFarlane was successful in winning from V. E. Burridge by 4 up and 2 to play. LADIES' GAMES. A medal round was played on Saturday, the following being the best scores: Miss Calwell, 92-22-70; Miss Rudd, 101-30-71; Miss Frost. 105-34-71; Miss Polson, 88-16.72; Miss Holtham, 98-26-72. The winner of the monthly net aggregate competition was Miss E. Calwell, with a score of 290 for the four rounds. MASTERTON CLUB J. P. HORNABROOK WINS SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. FOURBALL COMPETITION RESULTS. J. P. Hornabrook, playing very good golf, won the senior championship ol the Masterton Golf Club on Saturday, when he defeated R. B. Cameron, 4 up and 3 to play, over 36 holes. Cameron also played a good game. Hornabrook finished the morning round 5 up. taking 70. If he had not been stymied on the last hole he would have recorded a 69. The course was in wonderful order.
A fourball competition played by members of the Masterton Golf Club on Saturday resulted: F. J. Miller and N. H. Prior, 5 up; G. W. Rutherford and J. A. Card, 4 up; H. H. Daniell and G. M. Ross, 4 up; W. H. Kummer and R. G. Mackie, 4 up; R. Page and J. Shearer, 4 up; J. G. Bee and H. F. Coom, 4 up. RIVERSIDE CHAMPIONSHIP AND OTHER CONTESTS. The beautiful weather during ,the weekend favoured golfers, and in addition to the usual weekly competition, which drew a large number of players, no less than four championship finals were played on the Riverside links. The links generally, especially the greens, were in first-class condition and proved a great pleasure to players, several of whom put in very good cards. The following were the best scores for the four-ball bogey round; J. Thornton and S. Onion, 7 up, Brian Jones and lan Coleman, 6 up. Ladies, Miss Wood and Miss James, 7 up, Mrs Rawlins and Miss K. Dixon 4 up. Mrs Clark and Miss Wiggins, 1 up, Mrs Palamontain and Mrs Jones, all square. Miss Bampton and Mrs Brown, all square, Misses Bradley and J. Dixon, 2 down. In the ladies’ intermediate championship, Miss James beat Miss Wood, 3/2, after an evenly contested match. An afternoon tea was arranged by the ladies and Miss Wood presented with a bedroom clock on the occasion of her leaving for Palmerston North shortly. The ladies’ senior championship amongst others, was played on Sunday. Miss R. Bradley retaining the title by 5/4 against Mrs Rawlins. The men’s intermediate championship which created a great deal of interest, proved an easy win for B. Wilmshurst by 9/8 against S. Onion, who did not appear to be at his best. One of this season’s young players, Brian Jones, sprung rather a surprise by beating Max Manson. in the junior championship by 7/5. It was a well-deserved honour, however, as he has played consistently all the season, and 38 for his second nine holes in the morning was very creditable. while Manson has been seen to better advantage. , WANGANUI TITLE D. C. COLLINS BEATEN IN FINAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, October 5. Beating D. C. Collins (Featherston), 5 up and 3 to play. T. Casey (Wanganui) won the Wanganui amateur golf title for the second year in succession on the Belmont links today. Ideal weather prevailed, and a large gallery followed the finalists. Play was of a very good standard for the first nine holes of the final, and the pair turned for home all square. From this out Casey went into a lead and stayed there. In the semi-finals in the morning, Casey beat E. G. Tallis 5 and 3. and Collins eliminated F. C. Hutchison 1 and 1. 1
