A circular was received from the Labour Department concerning . the subsidisation of married and single inexperienced men employed on the farms under Scheme 4M. In the matter of subsidy, Mr Andrew stated that he had only received two months’ subsidy. He considered that it was not worth the trouble employing the men. Mr R. W. Kebbell spoke in support of Mr Andrew’s remarks. The letter was received. SHOPPING HOURS. “The Arbitration Court is like the Niagara Falls —it runs one way,” stated Mr L. T. Daniell in commenting on a letter received from the New Zealand Farmers’ Union which expressed concern at the legislation now before Parliament to give the Court of Arbitration power to fix the hours of shops. “It appears to; me that Mi - Fraser is talking with his tongue in his cheek,” said Mr J. C. Cooper. He added that Mr Fraser, and others, were asking all to work extra hours, yet it was apparent that this was not going to apply all sections. It was decided to communicate with the New Zealand Farmers’ Union urging that representations be made to the Government protesting against any alteration in the present shop hours.
