ANGER IN LONDON
TREATMENT OF BRITONS IN RUMANIA BRUTAL HOOLIGANISM OWES ORIGIN TO GERMAN ELEMENTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 4. The release of Mr Percy Clark, precident of an engineering firm at Ploesti, has been notified to the British Legation in Bucharest by the Rumanian Minister of the Interior, after a search made at his home for “certain important documents.” It is learnt that 150 Britons have left the Rumanian oilfields and many have been obliged to leave the country. Major - Dumitrescu, of the Rumanian army has been held for questioning about his relations with British oilworkers and also his connection with an alleged sabotage plot. While it is recognised that the brutal hooliganism of which Messrs Miller and Clark are the latest victims owes its origin to German elements, indignation here is acute, and it is felt that the Rumanian Government cannot escape responsibility for this uncivilised conduct.
