SALE AT FEILDING EWE MUTTON PRICES LOWER. OTHER RATES MAINTAINED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, October 4. Though there was a very light entry in all departments of the Feilding sale today the inquiry was strong and the competition keen. Prices held up well except for ewe mutton, which made lower rates. Very few wethers were on sale in the fat sheep section, tops bringing high prices. Good hoggets also advanced in value. Extra prime wethers made 41 10s to 44s 4d, prime 33s Id to 36s Id, unfinished 22s 7d to 27s 4d; extra prime ewes 27s 4d to 29s 4d, prime 24s lOd to 26s Bd, light and unfinished 18s lOd to 23s 4d; prime maiden ewes 36s lOd; extra prime hoggets ,31s 4d to 33s Id, prime 25s 4d to 27s lOd Might 20s lOd to 23s 6d. Hoggets were in keen demand in the store section, wethers advancing about 2s a head. Good ewe hoggets were also high priced. Best wether hoggets sold for 25s 6d to 26s 9d, second quality 20s lOd to 21s 6d; very good ewe hoggets 45s Id; ewe and lambs 19s to 20s.
Little change on last week’s failprices was shown for store cattle, all lines again selling readily;’ particularly yearling Jersey heifers. Good four and five-year A.A. steers made £9 6s, three-year £7; forward two-year A.A. heifers £7 12s. two-year £5 16s; A.A. yearling steers, £4 10s; A.A. cows £6 10s; empty heifers £6 Is; good yearling Jersey heifers £6 6s to £7 Is 6d; light cows and calves £4 15s to £6 10s; works cows, heavy to £5 2s; weaner Jersey bulls, £2 10s to £3 2s 6d; aged bulls £6 7s 6d to £l3 15s.
The quality of the dairy cattle was not high but prices were nevertheless very strong, an acute shortage of milkers persisting. Best springing heifers brought £l2 15s, second grade £8 5s to £lO ss, backward £6 10s to £7 15s; heifers in mjlk £8 ss; good springing cows £ll to £ll 10s, others to £7 15s; dairy bulls £9 10s to £l5 15s.
Though light in weight beef met keen competition. Very few heifers were yarded but cows were in strong supply. Prime cows sold for £ll 17s 6d to £l2 2s 6d, lighter prime £8 12s 6d to £9 17s 6d, unfinished £5 12s 6d to £7 15s; light heifers £6 17s 6d; light oxen £9 17s 6d to £ll 7s 6d, unfinished £7 7s 6d to £8 17s 6d; runners £4 10s to £6 10s; vealers £4 15s. Another good market was shown for pigs. Weaners made 20s 6d to 245; slips 26s to 295; stores 31s 6d to 38s 6d; porkers £2 8s to £2 16s 6d. CARTERTON SALE ALL CLASSES SELL WELL. Messrs Wright. Stephenson and Co. Ltd., report as follows:—A small yarding of fat sheep and a good yarding of cattle and pigs came forward at Carterton Sale yesterday, and was offered to a large attendance. All classes of stock sold well, and a total clearance was effected at the following prices:— Sheep:-\rFat wethers, to 355, fat woolly ew.es, to 295; fat S.D. ewes, to 28s 9d; fa£noggets, 29s 9d to 31s; shorn fat ewes, ,o 20s; light fat S.D. ewes, to 245. Cattle: —Jersey heifers, on drop, £lO. £lO. £lO 15s, £l2 10s; springing Jersey heifers, £7 to £9 10s; Shorthorn heifers, on drop, to £6 ss; Jersey cows on drop. £8 10s to £9; yearling Jersey heifers, £4 10s to £5 7s 6d; yearling Ayrshire heifers, to £3 16s; Jersey cross heifers, just calved, to £10; fat cows, £6 11s, £7 ss, £Bs to £9 Is; fat heifers, £5 4s to £6 4s; forward cows, £4 to £5 3s; store cows, £2 10s to £3 16s; forward Jersey steers, £5 5s to £5 9s; cows and calves, £4 to £5.
