MARTINBOROUGH

SWIMMING STRONG CLUB FORMED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a swimming and life saving club was held in the Borough Office on Wednesday night, there being a good attendance. Mr C. W. Skill presided. The chairman explained the object of the meeting, and on the motion of Mr Martin, seconded by Mr S. Chapman, it was decided to form an amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr C. W. Skill; vice-presi-dents, Messrs D. C. Pryor and S. Chapman; captain. Mr L. J. Quinn; vice-cap-tain, Mr J. K. Martin; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. McTavish; committee, all present were appointed a committee; ladies’ captain, Mrs C. R. Foreman; ladies’ vice-captain, Miss E. Caselcy. It was decided to affiliate with the New Zealand Swimming. Council and Royal Life Saving Society. It was decided that “club nights” should be held on Thursdays. The hours for school children were fixed at from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Messrs Pryor, Chapman and McTavish were appointed to interview the Borough Council Regarding season tickets and other matters. The club subscription was fixed at 5s for seniors, and 2s 6d for juniors. A strong club has been formed and should attract additional members during the season.
