DICTATORS MEET
SAID TO HAVE DISCUSSED LONG WAR PROSPECT OF QUICK DECISION GONE. MEDITERRANEAN PROBLEMS. The meeting in the Brenner Pass between Hitler and Mussolini appears to have been rather a hit and run affair, a 8.8. C. broadcast states. An hour was taken for lunch, and another hour for the talk. Both countries supplied patrols of fighter aircraft, which flew over the pass throughout the day. The official statement says the meeting was for a routine exchange of views, conducted in the spirit of the Axis. According to a newspaper report. Hitler’s plans for an invasion of Britain have petered out and he has lost the opportunity of winning a short war.. Joint plans for a long war are said to have been discussed. Italy and Germany, it was added, did not fear the prospects of a long war. Other sources state that Hitler is toying with the idea of trying his luck in Africa. Marshal Fraziana, Italian commander of the Italian forces in Africa has been cooling his heels in Rome for the past two days. It is stated that Germany and Italy must try to do something about British naval supremacy in the Mediterranean.
