ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB. FINAL RACE OF SEASON ON SATURDAY. Saturday's event to be held by the Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club will be the final race of the season and will be the most important on the club's calendar. The trophy to be competed for is a handsome cup donated by Mr A. J. Allison. The conditions attached to this challenge cup are that the event is to be the last of the season and held over a course to the Blairlogic Hotel and return. This is a particularly arduous race owing to the hilly nature of the country through which the road passes. The rough surface of the metal road brings out the best riding ability of the rider. The race was first held in 1938 when the trophy was won by R. Copp. Last year the event was cancelled. Although the competitors are numerically few the race should prove very interesting. The handicapper, Mr W. Palmer, has declared the following handicaps: K. Woollett scr; Norman Norris 1.45; G. Simpson 2.15; J. Heaven 2.30; Neville Norris 3min. The event will start from Mr Walliss's bakery in Queen Street North at 2.15 p.m.
