EARLY MORNING ATTACK
ON BERLIN INDUSTRIAL AREAS. (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) BERLIN, October 3. Sirens aroused Berliners from their sleep early this morning and they were forced to remain in their shelters for 72 minutes. The raiders concentrated on the north-west industrial area, where explosions were continuous. AIR MINISTRY REPORT BOMBING ATTACKS BY STRONG FORCES. ' (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. “Thick clouds and poor visibility hampered the operations of R.A.F. bombers last night,” states an Air Ministry communique. “Nevertheless strong forces of aircraft continued attacks on military objectives in Germany and in enemy occupied territory. Among the targets were oil plants at Stettin, Hamburg and Bootrop, Krupps works at Essen, goods yards in Cologne, a railway junction near Hamm and several enemy aerodromes. Docks at Hamburg and Wilhelmshaven and ports and shipping at Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Flushing, Ostend, Calais, Cherbourg and Ushant were also bombed. “Blenheims of the Coastal Command yesterday destroyed a bomber which unsuccessfully attacked one of our convoys. “A Hudson last night shot down a bomber into the sea. “Two of our planes have not returned to their base.” HELP FROM ITALY FIVE THOUSAND AIRMEN SENT TO GERMANY. BRITAIN' OFFERS ASSURANCE OF WELCOME. LONDON, October 3. The Associated Press states that 5,000 Italian airmen with their ground staffs and planes have gone to Germany. “We hope soon to welcome Italian airmen to our internment camps,” remarked a London commentator. “The wreckage of Capronis will make a nice change from Hienkels and Dorniers.”
